What is a Virtual Reality Game?
Virtual reality is a technology which allows a user to interact with a computer-simulated
environment, be it a real or imagined one. Most current virtual reality game environments
are primarily visual experiences, displayed either on a computer screen or through special
stereoscopic equipment, and some simulations also include additional sensory
information, such as sound through speakers or headphones. Many are MMORGs, or
"Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Games".
Second Life
Second Life is a three dimensional virtual environment entirely built and owned by its
residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown exponentially, and t is currently
inhabited by approximately 7,200,000 people from around the world. Once inside the virtual
world, you create your own avatar, buy and develop property, play games, go to bars, and
literally indulge in a second fantasy life!

What makes Second Life unique is its commercial viability. There is an actual marketplace
with commerce handled with the in-world unit-of-trade, the Linden dollar. Importantly, the
Linden dollar can be converted to US dollars at several thriving online Linden Dollar
exchanges in-world.
EverQuest
EverQuest is a three Dimensional fantasy game, that is also a multiplayer online
role-playing game. It was originally released on March 16, 1999, and the game's sequel,
EverQuest II, was released in 2004. The game was developed by Verant Interactive and is
owned and published by Sony Online Entertainment.

To play, one must initially pay for the game software
and then pay a recurring monthly fee. A free trial is
also available for those who wish to experience the
game before paying. Everquest has earned several
awards, including GameSpot's Game of the Year
Award for 1999.

Where Gamers Play and Players Game
The Sims
In this game, based on the original hit Sim City, the player is encouraged to make choices
while engaging in an interactive environment. As such, the game has successfully
attracted casual gamers, since the only real objective of the game is to organize the Sims'
time, and to help them acheive their personal goals. At the start, the games offers players
pre-made characters to control as well as the option to create more Sims. Creating a Sim
consists of creating a family, identified by a last name, that can have up to eight members.
The player creates a Sim by providing the Sim with a first name, an optional biography,
gender, skin complexion, and age. The personality of the Sim is dictated by five attributes
and a specific head and body, which is bundled with a specific body type and clothing.
The player cannot change the hairstyles of their Sims after they move into a house.

Each family, regardless of how many members are in it, starts with a limited amount of
cash, that can be used to purchase a house or vacant land, to build or remodel a house,
and to purchase furniture. All architectural features and furnishings are dictated by a tile
system, in which items must be placed on a square and rotated to face exactly a 90
degree angle with no diagonals permitted. Walls and fences go onto the edge of a square,
whereas furniture can be located on one or more squares. There are over 150 home
building materials and furnishings for purchase.

There is also an online multiplayer
version of the game.

abbreviated as WoW, is a pay-to-play MMORG. It is Blizzard Entertainment's fourth game set in the
fantasy Warcraft Universe. The first game introduced by Warcraft was Orcs & Humans in 1994.
World of Warcraft takes place within the world of Azeroth, four years after the events at the
conclusion of Blizzard's previous release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. The game originally
debuted on November 23, 2004, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft
franchise. The first official expansion pack of the game, The Burning Crusade, was released on
January 16, 2007.

As with other MMORPGs, players control an avatar within a gameworld, exploring the landscape,
fighting monsters, and performing quests on behalf of computer-controlled characters--wnich are
also referred to as NPCs, of non-player characters. The game rewards success through money,
objects, and experience. This, in turn, allows players to improve in both their skill and power.
Additionally, players may opt to take part in battles against other players of an enemy faction
through duels and fights.
